Electrocution is a seasonal problem for flying-foxes that rest on a powerline. If they make contact with a second wire they are killed instantly, but remarkably their young often survive. Contact your local electricity authority immediately and they will rescue it. (Chapter 3: Rescue techniques)

Tips to help you find a specialist bat carer:

Contact your local bat rescue organisation.
Contact your local wildlife care group.
Contact Wildlife Rescue Australia on 1300 596 457.
Contact your state Wildlife Authority. (Appendix I)

Only specialist bat carers can rescue and handle bats. A pre-exposure Australian bat lyssavirus vaccination is mandatory for bat carers. (See Chapter 11: Bats)
